Let There Be Light!
"Recently a friend of mine mentioned this to me, and I'd never heard of it. I investigated further, and was a little shocked at what I found out. Not being convinced by any of it, but amazed that someone, had taken so much time, thought, and effort to produce such a thing. I'm not here to start any kind of controversy at all, I'm curious about why such a thing exists? And curious if anyone here on the forum has more experience with them? As a newcomer to AA, and to self-help forums such as this, I like to look at all sides of matters, and as openly as possible, and I was a little surprised that something as big as the Orange Papers existed, and had not been talked about before at any AA meetings." The A.A. First Step, where people are supposed to "admit" that they are "powerless over alcohol", is a hoax. People are not "powerless" over their desires to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or take drugs. Being sick, and having a messed-up life from too much drinking, is just that — being sick. It isn't "powerlessness." Having difficulties quitting is not "powerlessness", it's having difficulties quitting. Saying that your drinking has really gotten out of control doesn't mean that you are!
Need a sponsor? Choose carefully! "Spiritual guides" come in many shapes and sizes. Following the advice of an incompetent, unethical, or power-driven sponsor can be just as useless as continuing to engage in self-defeating behavior. While many AA members have at least their hearts in the right place, care should be taken because the fellowship boasts a not too insignificant number of liars, cheaters, and thieves (of course they're all "reformed" now because they're "working a program".
This petition will be sent to President Obama and VIce President Biden, and their wives and all State Senators, and Governor Jerry Brown and will be receiving my www.signon.org petition which addresses Violent Criminals being sent to AA and then murdering our innocent citizens. Both AA members and normal civilians need to know this is happening and we want this to be stopped at state and federal levels.
